What Do YOU Like to Read About???

kinkywriter Blog

Earlier this summer I started a little experiment.

You may have noticed the new Reader Poll questions that started appearing in the sidebar on this site. Well, many of you did because you’ve been answering them over the last couple of months, and they’ve been helping me to understand a bit more about the types of things that my readers like to see, and what kinks they enjoy, and so on and so forth…

It’s sometimes tricky as a writer because first and foremost, I think you have to write for yourself before you can write for anybody else. Or at least that’s the way that I do it – there are certain fantasies and fetishes that simply don’t do anything for me, or I don’t know a thing about them, and so to try and write stories around those types of kinks in a way would be a bit disingenuous because there just wouldn’t be any passion there if I have to sit at the keyboard for hours upon hours trying to pound out a tale about knife play or needle play or something that may be very hot to someone else, but frankly just scares the bejesus out of me!

So I write the things that I write and I know, like bondage and chastity and leather and domination, and I’m able to do that because first and foremost, those topics actually mean something to me.

I’m sure we’ve all read a story or maybe watched a movie or even seen some porn where it’s just painfully obvious that the creator was just phoning it in because they were told that XYZ is really in right now, and the truth is they really couldn’t care less about what their story actually looks like at the end of the day because there’s just no passion there. It happens a lot when people start trying to write to demographics instead of simply writing what they know and then just letting the cards fall afterwards.

So I was a little skeptical when I first put the polls up, but just like the ratings that you see at the bottom of every story, it’s still fun for me to get your feedback and know which stories worked and which ones maybe not so much, and so I wanted to see if I could find a way to take in some reader feedback here and there without running into the problem of having it interfere with my writing process in a negative way.

And it’s been a few months, but I think I found it.

If you take, for example, my last Reader Poll that asked “Which story would you like to read next?” – to be perfectly honest, I would’ve been happy to write all of those stories! In fact, I still might – there are at least a couple of them that are lingering further down on my schedule, so it’s just a matter of seeing if I have enough ideas for them when I have some time to work on them. But in the meantime, the most popular by a long shot was a story called Monica’s Chastity Challenge, and so just earlier this week, that was the latest one that I posted.

It helps me to know what stories you want to read, as long as we’re starting with a list of my own preferences first.

I know it may sound a little greedy, but hey, I am the one writing this stuff, after all! 😉

So anyways, expect more of these types of polls in the future, and please do take a moment to weigh in when you see them – it only takes a few seconds to vote, you don’t even have to leave the page, and it’s kind of interesting to help me paint a little picture about the types of things that you out there enjoy reading about yourselves that I can put alongside my own picture when it comes time to decide what I want to write about next. And that’s not to say that these questions are going to systematically shape the way that I write going forward, but if it turns out that a ton of you are really into tape gags, then maybe I might think about working one into my next story when otherwise it might not have come to mind.

I want it to be fun, and delivering that last story that had been specifically chosen by many of you was, so I’d like to do more things like that in the future if you’re all game.

Thanks for reading, and voting, and rating my stories, too! Hopefully the things that we like cross paths more often than not, and you’ll let me know when they do… 🙂
